Are you ready for a 21st Century War of the Roses and the ultimate sporting showdown?

It’s time to #PutOnAPerformance in true White Rose style... It’s BASKETBALL TIME!

Basketball will be the showcase sport at the 53rd Roses opening ceremony hosted in our brand new state of the art York Sport Arena, sponsored by building specialists Interserve. Our teams will be battling it out in the biggest fixture of the weekend to decide who will be claiming victory over the Carter James Trophy this year!

The Friday Night Basketball Show will include a half-time show giving YOU the chance to win 2 FREE TICKETS to the Official Roses Clubnight… One ball, one hoop, one half-way line - good luck!

This ticket includes:

  • Entry into the York Sport Arena basketball event that runs from 6-9pm
  • An official #RosesAreWhite t-shirt for York supporters

(Roses t-shirts are available to collect from YUSU Reception from Monday 24th April. You will need to present your printed out ticket in order to collect your t-shirt.)

The Roses Festival is a family-friendly event centered around an outdoor stage featuring live music from local bands and performances from our student societies, as well as an outdoor bar, food vendors, attractions and funfair stalls run by the fantastic YUSU RAG! This year the Roses festival will include a spectacular light-show around the lake and the ”'Friday Night Basketball Showdown” will be screened LIVE to Greg’s Place!

The Roses Festival is part of the Opening Ceremony that is open to everyone! Tickets will be released on Friday 17th March, check back for updates.

Over the Roses weekend we will be raising money for York Mind and creating an awareness of mental health issues and the positive impact sport can have on mental health.

It’s time to bring the Carter James trophy back to York, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

No Roses is ever complete without it’s long-standing traditions… Roses Darts is back and bigger than ever for 2017!

As one of the most anticipated fixtures of the weekend will be returning on the Saturday of the Roses weekend to bring the battle of the titans to a packed out Roger Kirk Centre.

This year the Roses Darts will include a day full of fierce fixtures, food and fun!
