Secure your ticket for the Opening Ceremony of Roses 2023!
Join us to watch two thrilling fixtures of Lacrosse. Both our Women’s 1s & Men’s 1s will be battling it out with their Lancastrian counterparts in front of an enormous crowd as we get Roses 2023 underway in style!
Taking place ahead of most of our Roses fixtures, the Roses Boat Races will see our University of York Boat Club's crews go up against their Lancastrian counterparts to get some early points on the board and get York off to a winning start! This event is free and no ticket is required to attend.
We have 5 categories: Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Modern/Jazz, and Street! Our panel of expert judges will crown either York or Lancaster winner and award them all four points for the event in a ‘winner-takes-all’ showdown!
This event is free and no ticket is required to attend, but we advise getting to Central Hall nice and early to guarantee you’ll be able to watch!
The York Centurions will be fighting to bring the Lancaster Bombers back down to earth in what promises to be a highlight of Roses 2023! This event is free and no ticket is required to attend, but we advise getting to the pitch nice and early to guarantee you’ll be able to watch!
Closing Roses for 2023 we have both Women’s and Men’s 1s Basketball! This event is free and no ticket is required to attend, but we advise getting to the Arena nice and early to guarantee you’ll be able to watch. Basketball always draws a crowd for a hotly contested fixture!
At the end of the matches, there’ll be a trophy presentation where we’ll see the victorious University get their hands on the coveted Carter James trophy!
Whilst not for points, the VC fixture is always hotly contested! Come watch Charlie Jeffery (UoY VC) and Franki Riley (York Sport President) take on their Lancastrian counterparts at a game of table tennis!
If you’re on campus over the Easter Vacation, join us for a special Roses event. You will learn about the Roses competition, be able to take part in some of the sports being played at the tournament and find out how you can support athletes.
Join us at 12:30pm on Thursday 13 April at the York Sport Centre Arena.
To get you in the Roses spirit, and ready to support #TeamYork, we’re providing all the resources you need to make your signs ready for the tournament. Whether you want to show your artistic flair, recreating the white rose, or go for the classic ‘Roses are White’ sign, you can come along and paint at our two sign-making workshops ready for you to support the teams over the weekend.
Date 1 - Monday 24th April - 1pm-3pm - James Hall
Date 2 - Thursday 27th April - 2pm-4pm - James Hall
Our Roses Community Afternoon is being held on Saturday 29th April between 12pm and 4pm. York and Lancaster students and the local community are invited to come along and get involved in activities run by local sports teams, community organisations and our students. There will also be some exciting inflatables and fundraising activities for our charity partner Survive. Visitors to campus are also welcome to attend our fixtures taking place on the Saturday and across Roses Weekend.
